Что делает индийскую культуру особенной и уникальной? Бхагаван раскрывает это, чтобы мы могли стремиться к возрождению славы этой священной земли.
И хижина, и замок построены на земле. Точно так же все верования, религии и духовные практики имеют своей основой Веды. Особенность индийской культуры заключается в том, что одежда и манера поведения, язык и литература, уклад жизни, идеалы и общественные институты — всё здесь созвучно духовному развитию человека; всё это подчеркивает превосходство духа над телом, тонкого над грубым. Всё подчинено этой высшей задаче. Тело нужно питать и оберегать от болезней. Зачем? Чтобы оно было пригодно для духовной практики. Духовной практики ради чего? Ради осознания истины о самом себе. Тонкое — это основа грубого; Божественное — основа человеческого. Индийская культура обращает ваш взор к этой основе, а не к тому, что на ней возведено. Долгое время такой взгляд на мир был естественным для каждого индийца; он был на самом деле непроизвольным. Его впитывали с молоком матери, перенимали от отца в поле, от учителя в школе, от соседей, друзей и родственников, от старших и младших, из всего, что делали, писали или говорили окружающие.

What made Indian culture special and unique? Bhagawan reveals so that we may strive to reestablish the glory of this holy land.
The cottage and the castle are both built on the earth. So too, all faiths and religions, all disciplines have the Veda as the basis. The special feature of Indian culture is that here the dress and demeanour, the language and literature, the manner and mode of living, the ideals and institutions are all attuned to the spiritual progress of man, emphasising as they do the superiority of the spirit over the body, the subtle over the gross. Everything is subordinated to that supreme task. The body should be fed and kept free from disease. Why? So that it may be fit for spiritual discipline. Spiritual discipline for what? For the realisation of the truth about oneself. The subtle is the basis for the gross; the Divine is the basis for the human. Indian culture turns your eye to the basis, not to what is built upon it. This outlook was, for long, the natural outlook for every Indian; it was indeed automatic. It was imbibed at the mother’s lap, from the father in the field, the teacher at school, from neighbours and friends and relatives, from the old and the young, from whatever was done or written or spoken by those around. — Divine Discourse, Feb 20, 1964
